Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens is an American musician and singer, better than her stage name, Queen Latifah. Queen Latifah's performance in the fields of music, film and television has earned her an Golden Globe award two Screen Actors Guild Awards two Image Awards a Grammy Award six additional Grammy nominations, an Emmy Award nomination and an Academy Award nomination. Queen Latifah grew up in Newark, New Jersey. She is the daughter of Rita Owens, Sr. and Lancelot Owens Jr. Latifah's parents divorced when Latifah was ten years old. aged, was 10 years old. Latifah was raised in the Baptist religion and went to Catholic school in Newark New Jersey. The stage name Latifah meaning delicate and very kind in Arabic was handed to her her cousin when she was eight. Mark James aka DJ Mark the 45 King recorded an unreleased version of Queen Latifah's rap Princess of the Posse. The recording was given to host Yo! MTV Raps who is known as Freddy. Dante Ross, an employee of Tommy Boy Music who heard the track and made a deal with Latifah in 1988, to drop her debut single Wrath of My Madness.
